Balancing Your Chakras to Heal Emotional Eating

Energetic balancing of the chakras, along with hypnosis, can help a person lose weight and feed the “hungry heart” of emotional eating. I have noticed that many overweight people “leak” energy from what I call the “hunger chakra” located in the lower stomach “pool”, also known as the sacral chakra area. If you’re suffering from the frustration of being overweight and yo-yo dieting, ask yourself these questions:

• Are you always hungry?

• Have you tried everything to lose weight?

• Have you spent enough of your precious time, energy and money on your weight loss problem?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you probably need to dig deeper into the layers of the weight loss puzzle to find the missing piece… chakra balancing.

The knowledge of chakras is ancient and new scientific research supports this theory. The ancient Hindus stated that we have 7 sacred energy centers that run from the base of your spine to the top of your head, which correspond to certain organ functions, psychological functions, emotional and spiritual centers. Their interrelated balance plays a major role in all aspects of your life and well-being. According to recent scientific research, each chakra location corresponds to a major bundle of nerves that starts at the base of your spine and ends in the cerebral cortex. If any chakra is blocked or imbalanced due to fear, stress, negative programming or inaction, then your overall well-being will be affected. You can sense a deficiency or imbalance in this area if you feel tightness or cold/hotness, or if you feel stress or pain in the area.

Your sacral chakra is located in the sacral region of your body, about two inches below your navel in your pelvis. The sacral chakra is the “seat” or origin of our instinctual cravings, desires and habitual responses – and is closely related to emotional eating. Desires, impulses, and cravings rule the sacral chakra. They are for food, sex, relationships and reproduction. It’s also home to the instinctive “hungry beast,” the part of your subconscious that just wants to be satisfied and fed all the time. So, how to appease the “hungry monster” whose voracious appetite is constantly demanding to be fed? There are learned bad habits, learned behaviors and unhealthy lifestyles to “tame” the hungry beast. Also the issue of emotional eating, which is used to treat, calm or suppress emotions. Digging even deeper is a spiritual hunger that wants to be fed to fill the “hole in the soul” that food can never fill!

The mind and willpower used to “defeat” the hungry beast into submission through strict dieting and deprivation does not work in the long run. It is human nature to desire what we are deprived of – the most we have built. When you are hungry, your body is ready to look for energy. To fulfill this spiritual hunger, your heart chakra, located in the center of your chest, is the great healer and transformer and balancer of all chakras. Only through the wisdom of your heart chakra working with your “hungry” sacral chakra, the need to achieve balance can help tame the hungry beast.

Listen with your heart chakra! Treat your body like your best friend – with respect, care and compassion. Listen to your body’s needs and messages to you. Ask your body: what do you need? What kind of food do you need to feel good? Are you really hungry – or need to be nourished and comforted by love and kindness – to reach out to a loved one or give another a hand of love or help? Need to move and stretch your body? Need a deep delicious breath? Or are you starving for some “me” time? A very simple exercise to balance your hungry sacral chakra is to connect with the healing and transformative energy of the sacred heart chakra. The technique is as follows:

First rub your hands together and place one hand on the sacrum about two inches below the navel and the other on the heart. You can easily “connect” to your chakra with your life breath…simply follow the flow of the breath that comes in and out as you release, relax and let it into your body as you imagine your breath is the same as breathing. ocean waves. Visualize a gentle flow of radiant breath of light moving through your heart center. Feel, feel or imagine that in the center of your heart is an eternal flame of light – the light of your soul. Feel this inner light grow brighter and brighter – opening up and filling all the dark spaces and places within you and illuminating your life with love, forgiveness, peace and understanding. You can even allow the light of your love to grow when you remember a loved one, a child’s smile, a child’s smile, a beloved pet, a beautiful sunset, or a scene in nature that takes your breath away!.. Just stay here for a moment.

Now imagine a spiraling cord of light connecting from your heart chakra to your sacral chakra, and a cord of light spiraling out of your sacral chakra and one spiraling down from your heart chakra, intertwining as a double helix of spiraling light. The balancing color of your sacral chakra is orange. As you inhale and exhale, imagine a golden orange ball warming your abdomen and filling it with light. Allow its orange glow to shine brighter and brighter. Feel the light fill any empty space in your belly with the warmth and glow of the sun.

Imagine this area as an open vessel, a bowl of light that opens up and receives this good positive energy and becomes revitalized, charged and filled. Take as much as you need and feel good. Now rotate your hands first clockwise and then counter-clockwise 7 times to balance and anchor this energy in your body. Then, check in with your body and ask what it really needs… listen to your body. Now repeat the following affirmations out loud:

I am connected to my divine/source energy

I am loving and compassionate

I value my body and treat it with respect

I draw vitality

I respect my body and its needs.

I feel my emotions and am connected to my well-being center.

I respect my emotions because they are my inner guide.

I will reach out to the world in healthy ways

I feed on healthy relationships

I set healthy boundaries.

I have a healthy relationship with my body and food.

I’m thankful.

I respect and value the energy of these chakras in my life. I am connected to source/divine energy.

I radiate health and well-being.
